French Open started early this week and everyone is anticipating Nadal to go for his 10th Roland Garros title. After spectacular preseason on clay, where he won Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid he is for sure the favorite to win. Novak Djokovic is coming to French Open with new coach, Andre Agassi. AndreĀ seems to have positive effect on Novak as he is playing much better tennis in the first couple rounds of French Open compared to preseason on clay.

Women’s draw does not seem to have any favorite players to win, by Serena being out pregnant and Kerber losing first round. Simona Halep seems to be playing very good tennis but has ankle injury so it will be very hard for her to last two whole weeks of clay court tennis. Very likely we will witness a brand new Grand Slam winner šŸ™‚

For all of us in California who are not lucky enough to hit some balls on red or green clay we have to make sure that we spend a lot of time off court preparing for long summer court days. It is important to cross-train and practice stretching, yoga or swimming as all those will help us relax and rejuvenate.

For those juniors who have a chance to play some clay court tennis in Florida or Europe they should use this season to develop great technical and strategic basics. Clay is a great surface for everyone to be patient, consistent and really learn how to hit heavy topspin balls to create advantage over their opponents.
